’67 - ’69 Barracuda Differences

Alternator

  1. The bracket that mounts the alternator is different. If changing from ‘67 through ‘69 to a 1970 and later system get everything. 


Balancer

  1. The timing mark on the balancer changed sides. 1969 and earlier it was on the passenger side. 1970 and later the timing mark is on the drivers side.


Cigarette Lighter

  1. ‘68 the cig lighter was moved up beside the radio.


Dash

  1. ‘67’s could come with burlwood on upgraded deluxe interiors.

  2. ‘68’s Barracuda's had burlwood on the dash bezel and door panels

  3. ‘69's came with regular wood grain on the upgraded interiors.


  4. All ‘67-’69 Barracudas regardless of engine/options came with a Rallye dash.

  5. The Formula S version, had a rallye dash, upgraded suspension.

Dash Insert

  1. ‘67 burl wood dash insert

  2. ‘68 burl wood dash insert

  3. ‘69 straight grain wood dash insert

Dash Pad

  1. ‘67 dash pad has a crease running the length of the pad

  2. ‘68 had different ends because of the bottom piece.

  3. ‘68 was the only model with the lower dash pad.

  4. ‘69 is same as all other A-bodies.


Doors

  1. ‘67 and ‘68 doors are slightly different on the inside.

  2. ‘67 and ‘68 wing window levers are different.

Door Lock

  1. ‘69 Interior door lock button moved forward

  2. inside door lock knob position different


Emblems

  1. Emblems location was different, different years.

  2. Extra badging, for ‘68, ‘69 the engines were 340 or 383.


Engine

  1. ‘67 came with a 6 cyl 273, 318 and 383 engines.

  2. ‘67 there was a 6 cyl, 273 2bbl, 273 4bbl Commando (Formula S base motor) and 383 (Formula S optional motor).

  3. ’67 while the 225 slant-6 was still the base engine, the V8 options ranged from the 2-barrel and 4-barrel versions of the 273 to a seldom-ordered 383 cu in (6.3 L) "B" big-block, the latter available only with the Formula S package.


  4. ’68 came with a 6 cyl 318 340, 383 and 426 hemi.

  5. ‘68 the 273 was replaced by the 318 cu in (5.2 L) LA engine as the smallest V8 available,

  6. ‘68 the 273 4bbl Commando motor was replaced by the 340 cu in. as the base engine in the Formula S.

  7. ‘68, the 426 Hemi was not a factory option these cars were purpose built Super Stock drag cars built by Hurst.

  8. ‘68, the 383 Super Commando engine was upgraded with the intake manifold, camshaft, and cylinder heads from the Road Runner and Super bee, but the more restrictive exhaust manifolds specific to the A-body cars limited its output to 300 bhp (224 kW)"

  9. ‘68 Formula S340 confirmed the 318 was not a factory option engine in ‘67 in Barracudas or Darts.


  10. ‘69 came with a 6 cyl 273, 318, 340, 383 and 440.

  11. ‘69, the 440 was a regular factory option. The Hemi cars weren't legal for use on the roads and were sold to drag racers like the Drag Pak Challengers are today.

Front Fender

  1. ‘67 front fender scripts are at the front of the fender.

  2. ‘68 front fender scripts are at the rear of the fender.

  3. ‘69 front fender scripts are at the front of the fender.


Fuel Tank

  1. Gas tank straps are suppose to be different.


Fuel Tank Flip Cover

  1. 1968 it was plain.

  2. 1969 it said fuel.

  3. 1970 it said fuel.


Gauge Housing

  1. ‘67 gauge housing and climate control unit are one year only.


Grilles

  1. Grilles are sort of alike in ‘67 and ‘68.


  2. ‘67 is a rectangular metal insert.

  3. ‘67 the grill had a gap around it.


  4. ‘68 is a plastic finned insert.

  5. ’68 the grill had a gap around it.


  6. ‘69, grilles are totally different.

  7. ‘69 grill is an egg crate style and covers the whole inside.


Hood

  1. ‘67 and ‘68, the hood is the same. except with different inserts.


  2. ‘69, the hood was totally different.

  3. ‘69 hood is same as used on 73-up Dart Sports


Interior

  1. The interior didn’t really change much those 3 years.

  2. Arm rest pads were slightly different.


Lights

Back Up Lights

  1. ‘67, back up lights were in the rear valance.

  2. ‘68, back up lights were in the tail light assembly.

  3. ‘69, back up lights were in the rear valance.


Marker Lights

  1. ‘67, there were no marker lights.

  2. ‘68, it had round marker lights.

  3. ‘69, it had rectangular marker lights.


Mirrors

Side View Mirror

  1. ’68, side view mirrors were repositioned rearward.


Mouldings

  1. Trunk lid mouldings were different those 3 years.


Pitman Arm

  1. ‘67 was 1 year only for the pitman arm.


Radio

  1. ‘67 had round radio knobs.

  2. ‘68 were thumbwheel, the instrument bezel had different cutouts for radio.

  3. ‘69 were thumbwheel, the instrument bezel had different cutouts for radio.


Seats

  1. ‘67 front buckets had a vinyl laminated steel back panel just like the ‘66.

  2. ‘68 up had upholstered hardboard insert in the back.

  3. ‘69 up had upholstered hardboard insert in the back.


Seatbelts

  1. ‘67 seatbelts (lap belts only) had spring loaded spools on the belt.

  2. ‘68 seatbelts had a more modern retractor.

  3. ‘68 also had front shoulder belts.

  4. ’69 also had front shoulder belts.


Timing Mark

  1. The timing mark on the balancer changed sides. ‘69 and earlier it was on the passenger side. ‘70 and later the timing mark is on the drivers side.


Transmission

Powerglide

  1. 1968 Formula S340


  2. Yes….. 283, powerglide. Some came with the ultra rare 3 speed powerglide.

  3. All factory.


Trim

Back Panel Trim

  1. ’67, back panel trim covers the whole area between the tail lights.

  2. ’68, back pane trim is a thin little band.

Side Rocker Trim

  1. ‘67's and 68's have side rocker trim and use short wheel opening trim.

  2. ‘69's have no side rocker trim on so they need full wheel opening trim.


Upholstery

  1. Upholstery patterns different each year.

  2. Jan 1, '69 and newer had mandatory headrests, optional on earlier models.


Water Pump

  1. The water pump changed in 1970 and the spacing is different. If changing from 1967 through 1969 to a 1970 and later system get everything. Water pump upper and lower pulleys.


Windows

Windshield Trim

  1. ‘67 windshield trim is different from that of ‘68 and ‘69's.

Rear Windshield

  1. ‘67 rear notch window is different from that of ‘68 and ‘69's.




Weight

    All ‘67-’69  A BODY weighed approximately 3000-3200 lbs.
